The perfect boiled egg

That's right! I have perfected the process of the boiled egg. The secret is that you really need to pay close attention to the temperature of the water and timing. Here it is in it's simplest form:

  • Bring water to a boil (w/o eggs in the pot).
  • Put eggs in pot. Use a spoon to put them in gently to avoid cracking.
  • Set a timer immediately after eggs are in the pot for desired result (no less than 6 minutes).
  • Pay attention to the boiling water. Do not reduce the heat on the burner too much. You want the water to be bubbly the whole time. This is the key part.
  • Once the timer goes off, take the eggs out immediately with a spoon and place in a bowl.
  • That's it in a shell of a nut :-P

More deets:

I've gone through many trial runs to get this down. I haven't found anyone on the internet that has devoted any type of detailed effort or explanation of how to get the egg to a the perfect specific desired result, so this is my contribution.

I prefer my boiled egg to be soft and I have perfected this specific result. Here it is with WAY more detail:

  • Bring water in a pot to a boil (w/o eggs in the pot) - You want to see the water bubbling. Not the kind of bubbling where you see little bubbles the size of BB's sticking to the pot and 5 or 6 of them float up to the surface every 2 seconds. Not the kind of bubbling where it starts to get foamy on the surface either. You want the perfect medium between the two. The kind of bubbling where about 5 bubbles/second rise to the surface about the size of an eyeball.
  • Put eggs in pot. Use a spoon to put them in gently to avoid cracking.
  • Set a timer immediately after eggs are in the pot for 6 minutes. No more, no less!
  • Pay attention to the boiling water. Make sure it is bubbling to where about 5 bubbles/second rise to the surface relatively the size of an eyeball. You can reduce the heat a little, but not too much. You want to make sure that the water is still at a very steady state of boil. You just need to make sure the water is bubbly/boily the whole time. This is the key part. If your egg comes out not cooked enough, I would not increase the boiling time the next time you try, I would increase the flame during this state on your next batch/attempt.
  • Once the timer goes off, take the eggs out immediately with a spoon and place in a bowl. If you eat one right away, the yoke should ooze out and be perfect like a over medium breakfast egg fried in a pan cooked just right. I usually eat one right after the boiling process and let the rest of them cool down to room temp and put them in the fridge. Say you eat one the next day - the yoke will be solid, but really soft and the outside of the yoke will be colored yellow and not greenish darkish yellow.
I have never had a hard time peeling my boiled eggs when following the above directions (exactly).

If you want the eggs to be cooked a bit more, I've found that anything over 10 minutes is too long/much. An 8 minute boil time is good amount.

Please give me feedback and I will make necessary adjustments.

Face the Autumn by The Family

Face the Autumn by The Family is a pop single that made it to number 12 on the WLS music survey in 1968. It was a local hit released only as a 45rpm single record. Originally written and produced by Bob Whiteside on the USA label.

The band members of The Family were as follows:

Singer - Rochelle Lara
Drummer - Louis Stephens
Guitar - Bobby Sizemore
Bass Guitar - Pat Flannery

While Rochelle Lara was singing in the band "Ginny and The Wolves" and performing in local Chicago nightclub venues her manager (Ed Bauman) landed a contract for her to record four songs written & produced by Bobby Whiteside. One of the songs recorded through this deal was titled "Face the Autumn". The song on the B-side to the "Face the Autumn" Forty-five is called "So Much to Remember".  At the time of the recording, Ed Bauman went from being Rochelle's manager to being the manager of the band. Louie Stephens (drummer) joined the band for the recordings and remained with the band ever since. It was then decided to name the group "The Family". The Family stayed together for about four years during which they played one nighters and college gigs. Then, The Family changed their name to Raintree and recorded another 4 songs (Keep the Candle Burning, I Want to Give You My everything, Come Out Come Out & Blue Eyed Soul) under the Amaret label. Raintree continued to play for a couple of more years.

The recording of Face The Autumn sparked a friendship that would later on result in marriage. Louis Stephens & Rochelle Lara were later married and Rochelle took a new last name. Three exquisitely beautiful children were produced and they took the world by storm.

In 2005 Rochelle Stephens heard Face the Autumn playing on WDRV in Chicago during Bob Stroud's radio show. Later, in 2009 Louis & Rochelle discovered that Face the Autumn was featured as track #12 on the The Drive's (WDRV) Rock 'N Roll Roots Vol. 11 CD available at all Chicago area Borders locations.

Soap Box - Marriage and football

Things I don't like hearing about marriage.
It really gets on my nerves when I hear people complaining about their significant other. It also doesn't make any sense to me that people put more effort into their business than their marriage. Gee! maybe that's why they're miserable. Uh... No communication & no effort = failure. A principle even a fifth grader could tell you, but yet multimillion dollar corporate big wigs tend to have the need to reeducate themselves with these fundamental lessons in life.

Why is it frowned upon to talk positively about marriage. Is it cheesy?! Do the people who think its cheesy get their influence from movies, T.V. shows, & advertising. Or do they read gossip too much and look at all the disfunctional hollywood movie stars as role models. Like a football player who uses drugs and has premarital sex with multiple partners.

Don't even get me started on football either.
Well I guess I have to vent.
Football is the most rediculious phenomenon I had ever heard of. It represents & promotes alcohalism & all of the seven deadly sins (Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy & Pride). My question is why is it so popular? I have recently come to the conclusion that it is popular because it can be made a spectacle of. People will pay to watch. Mayors of major cities love this because it brings in lots of money, but at what cost? Our priorities are messed up. Football players do not deserve the millions of dollars they are getting paid to play a game. What does this teach youths?
Good teachers should be getting this income, because their cause is more worthwhile and noble. Churches should be getting this money and should be a spectacle. Churches keep us on a good and moral path. I am furious about this! Our society is backwards and hollywood is the new Saddam and Gomorrah. Our society looks to hollywood as an example of how to function as a society. Ignorant is the follower of fools.

Here is my first dumb blog post.
Pro football players dont deserve the money they make.
That is all for now.
